This week I am excited to share a playful piece meandering down the strange sensations stirring within during this shared isolation. Catherine Wrightson has a gift for capturing experience with a myriad of smooth fluid lines interwoven with definitive technical terms. Visit @catherinewrightsonwrites to read more of her work.
Self Discovery
A life of love requires a certain amount of other-centeredness. However, without help from above this can be exhausting. Sometimes a careful look inward in conversation with the one who heals can help us venture out of ourselves with renewed energy. Gina Lacayo beautifully captures this inside out journey in her poem Self Discovery. What do you see when you look within?
Come here,
take a look,
face the mirror.
Stare.
Get closer,
raise your gaze.
Lock eyes with your reflection.
Stay.
Look some more, it’s ok
your eyes are ready to hold your fate.
Fear will strike,
you will paralyze.
The heart will sting
while you lower your eyes.
Look again.
Find your gaze.
See the pain.
Stay.
Is that you in the mirror?
Is that you inside me?
See your beauty
see your pain
see your fragility
see your strength.
Accept the energy
in your tired eyes.
Rejoice in your reflection,
hold it tight.
Look some more.
Explore.

Searching for Shalom
This week, I am thrilled to share the words of Elena Limoges. In her poem “Searching for Shalom,” Elena draws out the turbulence and the dryness that occurs when we look for peace in the wrong places. She captures feelings of distress, anxiety and shame. At the turn, she speaks the hearts deepest desire; confidence that God sees and can restore. Thank you for sharing your words Elena! Shalom.
Daughter Redeemed
This week’s poem wonderfully reflects the beauty of motherhood. Lara begins by highlighting all the wondrous things on display as she gazes at her daughter. Her imagery conveys the intensity of a mothers love, a love so strong that it is sharp. As we follow her in this journey of love we see how her affection for her daughter leads her closer to God the father, and helps her love herself more through God. This is one of the beauties of motherhood that is not spoken about enough. Our children have a marvelous way of help us grow in love in so many dimensions. Thank you Lara for renewing awareness of this reality in our hearts through your words.
